Vape pens are battery powered and have a ceramic heating element (in the atomizer) that heats up and vapourizes the oil, that is held in the cartridge (glass tank).
The heating element heats the oil to just below the combustion temperature, allowing the oil to vapourize and the user to inhale vapour instead of smoke.

Vape pens are battery powered and have a ceramic heating element that heats up and vaporizes the oil, that is held in the cartridge.
The battery stores the energy and controls the necessary amount of power to the atomizer via a central processor unit (CPU), during the vaping process.
Some batteries allow the user to adjust the voltage - by means of turning a small dial at the base of the battery, or by pressing a button (located on the battery).
However, buttonless batteries have a 'fixed' voltage setting, making this type of battery, popular also.
